Hundreds of people have now traveled to Italy with ART INCONTRO, many returning for a second and third trip. Here’s what some of them have had to say about their experiences.

Ann Savill, ART
INCONTRO SICILIA (2004), NAPOLI (2002), UMBRIA (2001)
I love Art Incontro because Lucia does an enormous amount of preparation
and is an unfailingly happy person to be with. I love the very good
reading lists, the practical information and the diversity of the
itinerary. I love the personal touch and the small group, the being
part of a town for whole weeks, the great expanse of art and architecture
and history and the opportunity to try artistic experiments one
self. I love the idea of self-catering, market shopping, belonging
temporarily to a culture. Its always memorable,
busy, funny, active and challenging and utterly impossible to describe
adequately unless youve done it yourself. Bravo Art Incontro!

If only one visit to Italy were allowed in a lifetime I would
recommend going with Lucia Parrella. In fact I have visited many
times and have a great love for Italy but never before have I felt
really part of the fabric of the place. Lucias research, enthusiasm,
guidance, artistic talents and sheer good company are greatly to
be valued. She gave all and much more than I could have hoped for.
It says much that of our group of eight, three had done a previous
trip with her. I very much look forward to visiting
Italy with her again.

Siracusa boasted everything I could have desired
for my ideal holiday; warm weather, warm people and charming ancient
streets brimming with love and life. All the while, it is an efficient
city, firmly part of the 21st century. This Sicilian tour is now my
third Art Incontro experience and I have forgotten that there is
any other way to travel. Art Incontro programs are well organised
but thankfully they are also very flexible with each member of the
group free to determine their own level of participation. This is
very important to me. I was surprised that Lucia managed to inspire
me on this occasion to attempt some art making over and above my
usual art appreciation. It proved to be an unexpected
bonus.
Enid Colquhoun, ART INCONTRO UMBRIA (2006)
"I have such admiration for the manner in which Lucia Parrella conducted the Art Incontro Umbria tour. She imparted knowledge of medieval art, gave suggestions regarding places we might like to visit on our free days as well as advice where situations might need to be approached with consideration for local people and customs. Our workshop activities were conducted enthusiastically and we all produced very interesting and diverse results. Over the years, I have been part of larger groups travelling to China, Europe and South East Asia. I rate Art Incontro as the most fulfilling experience of them all."
Jenny and Evan John, ART INCONTRO SICILIA (2006) NAPOLI (2005)
“We would not usually be interested in an organised tour but Art Incontro Napoli sounded amazing and turned out to live up to these high expectations. The knowledge and enthusiasm of Lucia, the Coordinator, were outstanding. Her availability before the tour started to answer queries by email contact was great. Every aspect of the tour was excellent and we were given access to people and places that we could not have experienced otherwise. I would not hesitate to recommend this tour to any discerning traveller with a real interest in Italian art and culture."
Leslie Muirden, ART INCONTRO UMBRIA (2004)
Being based in one spot for three weeks
was fantastic and northern Umbria is an exceptionally beautiful place for
art work, due to its location and because it provides time and quiet
for reflection and for work. The tour combined art work with art
history visiting various workshops, including Umbrian artisans
with quite unique skills. Yet it allowed a sense of freedom to fit
in with organised trips and to choose to work alone. Lucia was very
organised, engaging, sensitive, humorous and knowledgeable. She
demonstrated great attention for detail and imparted knowledge with
understanding.
Mary and Richard Noall, ART INCONTRO UMBRIA (2002), NAPOLI (2001)
This was a perfect holiday sheer bliss! We are old
hands at Italy many trips, at least one a year for
20 years a few with organised tours, which we enjoyed and
many more on our own staying in rented apartments. But this Procida
and Napoli soujourn with Lucia topped them all. We loved being involved
in the art classes even with little or no skill and made to feel
so welcome. The entire trip was exactly as I had hoped and we give
you all top marks and Lucia Parrella we give 101% and many thanks.
Now, where to next?
Jane Creenaune, ART INCONTRO SICILIA (2004)
"Art Incontro Sicilia was a purpose filled journey. It was journey where I made links with my own Sicilian background and collected ideas and images for my future work as an artist. The flexible structure of the program allowed me to pursue my interests and readily achieve my goals."
Paul and Jean White, ART INCONTRO UMBRIA (2002)
Lucias knowledge of northern Umbria and the obvious respect and affection
shown to her by the many artists and crafts persons we met meant
that we were introduced to workshops and studios not available to
the usual visitor to Italy. This resulted in an appreciation of
Umbrian culture that we both deeply value. In a real sense, we were
immersed in the culture of the early Renaissance through Montone,
Sansepolcro, Città di Castello and the many small, precious
chapels and churches we were led to by Lucia.
Valerie Webb, ART INCONTRO NAPOLI (2004), UMBRIA (2001)
Thank you so much for such a stimulating, rewarding and enjoyable
Art Incontro Napoli. For me, Naples is right up there with Rome,
Florence and Venice overflowing with treasures and a
vivacity which I found appealing. Procida is unique and quietly
infiltrates the soul. Its so good to have all those experiences
to reflect on. The Moonlight Melodies concert was a gorgeous, gentle
night. And the percorso animato (street theatre) performance
Ive relived that many times. The view from Terra Murata, fresh
fish alla brace, Procida lemons, Matteos pizzas and, and,
and
.
Jill Taylor, ART INCONTRO NAPOLI (2005), UMBRIA (2004)
"Lucia’s talent for managing people; her knowledge and empathy are the main reasons I enjoy the Art Incontro programs. And the fact that the programs are not expensive. There seems to be a focus on keeping costs down, which I really appreciate." |
