ART
INCONTRO NAPOLI is
an 18 day program of creative workshops and touring, exploring Napoli
(Naples) through its visual and written culture. Set primarily on
the island of Procida in the Bay of Naples, ART INCONTRO NAPOLI provides a rare opportunitiy to develop ideas and skills while being immersed in the landscape, language and history of southern Italy.
Procida is the enchanting island captured
in the film, Il Postino (The Postman) and evoked in Elsa Morantes
classic novel, LIsola di Arturo (Arturos Island).
Situated near one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline
in Campania, the island is within easy reach of Napoli, Ischia
and the Phlegraean Fields by ferry and hydrofoil. |
Procida provides a fascinating blend of
farming traditions and the cultures of a seafaring people.
The gardens are filled with lemon trees and the multi-coloured
houses resting against tufa rock make the islands architecture
one of the most distinctive in the region. Our home on Procida
is the fishing village of Corricella, found in a natural amphitheatre
by the sea at the foot of an ancient abbey.
ART INCONTRO NAPOLI
is flexible and designed to foster your own creative interests. There
are six days in Napoli, including four nights at the end of the program.
Other highlights include visits to Pompei, Ischia Island, the
Solfatara volcano, the Phlegraean Fields and an excursion
to Amalfi and Ravello. |

CREATIVE WORKSHOPS
Our exploration of Napoli begins with books and
reading. Before departure, participants will receive a selection
of writing inspired by Napoli and the Campania region. The reading list will include fairytales, essays, fiction, biography and history. |

|
The program in Procida begins with a bookmaking
workshop enabling everyone to produce a handmade journal for drawings
and notes throughout their trip. A series of drawing sessions has
been incorporated into the program to provide an opportunity to
record impressions, share ideas and develop skills. These sessions
will take place primarily on the island where the harbour, architecture
and village life provide fascinating subject matter for visual investigation. The drawing sessions will encourage experimentation with a variety
of mediums and approaches and will be flexible to accommodate different
levels of experience.
To inspire you further, the practical art making
is complemented by visits to a selection of museums, archaeological
sites and contemporary art spaces in and around Napoli. The program
also includes visits to selected craft workshops and opportunities to enjoy local festivals and performances. |

ACCOMMODATION
ART INCONTRO NAPOLI has secured apartment
accommodation in the heart of Corricella. The apartments
contain comfortable bedrooms, a dining area, kitchen, bathroom
and a balcony or terrace with harbour views. Single and
twin share accommodation options are available. A short stroll leads to an ancient
square with some of the islands oldest buildings,
as well as seafood restaurants, cafés, grocery
shops and other local services. The main port, which connects Procida
to the mainland and other islands in the Gulf is a comfortable
stroll from Corricella. |

For the last four days of the program, we will be staying in a small hotel located inside an ancient palazzo in the historic centre of Naples. The hotel is conveniently located on one of the city’s most beautiful piazzas, surrounded by stunning examples of gothic and baroque architecture. |
